What you should know for surgery

Before LASIK Surgery

SOFT LENS WEARERS - Discontinue wearing lenses at least 2 weeks prior to evaluation date - No Cheating! Wearing your lenses even one day during that period could result in poor results!

HARD/GAS PERM LENS WEARERS - Special instructions and appointments to be given due to warpage of the cornea.

Please refrain from taking any antihistamines and decongestants one week prior to surgery, as this will dry out your eyes.

Let us know if you are taking Accutane, Immitrex or Corderone. These medications may delay your surgery.

Pregnancy is a contraindication for LASIK. Please let us know if you are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant.

No make-up, creams or lotions three days prior to and on the day of surgery. For optimum results, eye make-up should be discontinued one week before surgery.

Lid Scrubs (baby shampoo + water) are to be done to cleanse the eye lids one week prior to but not on the day of surgery. Instructions to follow.

The Day of LASIK Surgery

Arrange for someone to drive you to the office both the day of surgery and the day after.

Nothing with a fragrance should be worn/used on this day. Head to Toe!! Fragrances affect the optics within the laser and your ultimate outcome!

Wear comfortable clothing. Try to choose something without 'fuzzes' (i.e. sweaters).

No smoking and no caffeine the morning of the surgery.

Payment is due on the day of your LASIK procedure. Payment plans are available, please contact Laura, our Lasik cordinator for more information.

On your special day, we ask that when you leave our office, you go straight home and simply sleep & eat...! Sleeping allows for faster healing!

After LASIK Surgery

Post-op appointments* are - one day, one week, one month, three months, six months and one year! We will certainly see you any other time that you feel you need us! *All of these visits are included in your original fee.

Be careful for one week not to get shower water directly in your eyes. Keep a towel handy or use a removable shower head for easier directing.

No swimming, hot tubs, or saunas for three weeks after surgery.

Stay out of dirty or 'chemically enhanced' environments for at least one week after surgery. If need be, we can write you a work note from your surgeon to your employer.

For one month - avoid situations where your eyes may be in jeopardy of getting hit by flying objects -- use safety goggles and sun glasses.
